Why do Cats Lay on your Chest?

Why do cats lay on your chest?

Who doesn’t love cats? They offer you love and energy and are always affectionate. So people wonder why do cats lay on their chest? I tried to answer this question and also asked a few owners to tell me why cats love to lay on their why do cats lay on your chestowner’s chest.

What people say

I found that many cats lay on your chest because it is a warm place and they feel safe there. If your cat lays on your chest it is a good sign because it means it is not afraid of you. It’s also a sign that you are important to the cat. So, they lay there because it’s a comfortable place, it’s warm and they like you. They not only like to lay on your chest, but also like to sleep there, if you let them, of course.

What research say

Doing more research, I also found that it’s a motherly thing or an emotion from their childhood. When they are little, they lay near their mother, feeling the breath, beating heat and the warmth. So laying on your chest reminds them of that and gives them a safe and protection feeling. Cats are pleased with the rhythmic movement of your body, that’s one more reason they like to lay on you.

What are other places where cats like to sit?

I was curious of other places where cats like to sit so I asked a few owners I know: What are other places where your cat lays?

Answers:

Mark:
Depends on where I am. His cat tree is right beside my chair in the den. He sits on my night stand at my head looking out the window at night until he thinks I am asleep and stop tossing, then he snuggles next to my belly to sleep.

Susie:
On my bed, on my sofá, on the dresser, on top of the refrigerator, and on the table also on my legs and my arm.

Katty:
On my husband’s lazy boy – at the top, then she can see out the window.

Sophia:
On top of the back of my chair or in my lap if possible.

William:
On the computer desk, on kitchen counter in the princess Kit Kat Zone-Kit Kat, On my night stand, bed, window plant ledge, fireplace hearth

Jacques-Pierre
On my pier one director’s chair, in my closet

Harry:
On my bed and in my closet and under the bed in our spare bedroom

Andre:
On my lap all over it, next to me and on pet lounger, chairs on back porch

Minnie:
Cat jungle gym, under bed of other spare bedroom and under living room table

Olivia:
She only likes high places she never lays on the floor

Emma:
On the back (top) of my reclyner, or in his pod. Or, when I’m getting ready for work, in my bathroom sink (waiting for the water to come out!)

Natalie:
Onyx likes the middle of my table or a basket. Maleficent likes to hide or she likes the chair in the dinning room. Jazmyne the back of my computer chair behind my head. Furball….. I mean Fireball (my daughters cat) on my desk next to me. Bagheera likes to lounge where ever usually in someones lap.

Conclusion

So I am convinced: so many CATS so many places to lay or sit. They will find the most comfortable place for them and conquer it. So in conclusion: Cats will sit wherever they want because they’re the boss.
