Scottish Fold vs Cats: knowing what works for you

Scottish fold vs Different Breeds

I just love cats, and a look at the Scottish fold gives me more reason to love these furry creatures. Most cats have their own unique and distinct appearance, something that separates them from the rest of their breed. One of the most notable features about the Scottish fold is its ears; it has folded ears that are not easy to miss. It also has a round face (which always looks so innocent) and large eyes, which are circular in shape.

It is said that the folding of its ears is caused by a genetic mutation that is mostly found in the
cat’s breed. It also has a short snout, shorter when it is compared to other cats. Its legs are short or medium in size. When it comes to the fur of the Scottish fold, it is either long or short depending on the cat and the fur comes in so many different colors. You will definitely find a shade you can fall in love with.

One thing that not everyone knows about the Scottish fold is its life expectancy. A Scottish fold can live for up to 15 years, and that is pretty long for a cat. The weight of the cat differs depending on the gender. Normally, the male cat is heavier than the female cat. The Ragdoll, on the other hand, is mainly known for its fur which grows fast. It is also known to have a temperamental attitude and affectionate side.

Each and every cat has its own unique aspect about it as well as lovable qualities such that trying to compare them seems completely unfair. However, in this article, I am going to look more at the side of the Scottish fold and speak more about it. If you are always fascinated by Scottish folds, you are in the right place.

Scottish folds appreciate spending time near the owner or companion. He/she is really playful and likes to be shown a lot of affection, which can be done via petting the cat. Naturally, the Scottish fold is known to have a laid-back personality, however, this furry friend still loves to play and hang around people. If deprived of affection, it becomes really timid. What makes it the ideal pet is the fact that it is able to adapt to new changes, even other new pets that you bring into the house.

Note that we’ve compared Scottish Folds and British Shorthairs in another article. I’ve put a link here.

The Exotic Shorthair cat

Most people don’t pay too much attention to the breed or the distinctive features of the cat. To be honest, I did not know much about it either

until I developed an interest. I am not an expert on the topic, I am just a cat lover who loves observing. Chances are if you are reading this, you are too. Just a look at the exotic Shorthair cat and you will probably turn your head again. This is mostly because this cute cat has a face that you cannot really miss or forget.

On a lighter note, most cats have unforgettable faces. This little cutie has a weight of 7 to 12 pounds, depending on the gender and can live for 8 to 15 years, and according to some studies, even longer.

This cat has its own unique appearances. It has a large face that is round in shape, full cheeks which means they are a little chubby. The nose of the cat is short and is also broad in shape. The cat’s body is seen to be short, the legs are short and thick and with muscle. It is quite funny to see a cat being described as muscled but those are the feature of its legs, muscled.

One thing to note about this cat is that its fur doesn’t grow to be long, it either remains at a small or medium size. What is obvious about most cats no matter the breed is that their fur comes in so many colors and it is the same for this cat as well. It might not be your typical cat breed, but it has so much in common with other cats.

Ragdoll Cat

The Ragdoll cat

This cat breed is gentle and deeply affectionate. Her glowing blue eyes are an enchantment many pet owners cannot resist. She has a distinctive color with medium-length fur. Ragdoll is famous for being a lap pet thus will spend most of her time patched on your lap and loves to be cuddled just like a baby. She is among the heaviest cat breeds weighing between 10 and 20 pounds. However, you will be surprised by her tiny soothing voice. If your home is an empty nest, this quiet and laid-back cat is the choice you should make.

The Persian cat

One other furry fried to be on the lookout for is the Persian cat. Just like its name, it originated in Persia, which is presently known as Iran. The

The Persian cat is small in shape, it is also known to have a very large tail. The tail is almost as long as the size of its body.

The Persian can live for 10 to 15 years and weighs around 7 to 12 pounds. It has a flat face and large round eyes, which are seen to come in different colors. These little cats also come in a different variety of colors and just to mention a few silver, golden and shaded among others.

A Persian cat is known to be sweet and gentle. Either the cat will be playful, or even quiet; it all depends on the individual cat since each cat has a personality of its own. This little cat unlike the exotic short hair, which can either be indoors or outdoors, is mainly an indoor cat. If exposed to outdoor activities a bit too much it may not be able to handle it. Like earlier stated, it is a gentle cat and outdoors is not her thing.

However, most of its activities and behaviors are similar to that of other cats, it can either engage in sleeping, playing, running or even jumping. She is a great companion if you are looking for a way not to be lonely.

Scottish Fold Vs Ragdoll

It is hard enough to choose a pet by trying to compare them. I personally find all of them to be cute. However, there comes a time when you

have to think about what your expectations are as a pet owner, and that is when you start looking at the differences in terms of the ideal cat. According to pet owners, who have either adopted a Scottish fold or a Ragdoll or in some instances both, there are different behaviors on the characteristics of the animals. The Scottish fold is full of energy and loves attention. If this matches with your personality or the kind of animal that you are looking for then you should consider getting it as a pet if you already have not.

The Ragdoll on the other hand, can be very calm and will only be looking out for your attention when he wants it and not when you are offering. Well, if you are ready to wait for when your pet wants your affection instead of willingly giving it, this might just be the cat for you. It is up to you if you want a bit of a needy cat or one that is a little more independent. Between the Scottish fold and the Ragdoll , the Ragdoll tends to have longer fur, although both of their furs vary depending on the breed. Most of their owners agree that both cats are temperamental and that it is just a matter of which personality you like more, calm or energetic; the choice is all yours.

Scottish Fold vs Exotic Shorthair

You already know the different physical traits of both cats, and now you probably want to know which personality best suits you. The Scottish breed is known to be sweet and really charming. It is very easy to live with as well as to care for. She also seems to blend perfectly well with the family and is affectionate to each member.

Though it is very lively, the Scottish fold regularly develops stiffness on its tail and would require to be handled with care so as not to cause any pain or injury. Exotic short hair is known to be gentle and has a kind personality. It can be curious, fun-loving and playful as well.

However, the Exotic Shorthair gets very attached to the owner such that it doesn’t want to be left alone. This can be solved by leaving the television on for your little pet friend so he or she doesn’t feel so lonely. Even with that fact, the Shorthair is known not to be so demanding even as they show their affection to their owners. Well, looking at the two characteristic traits, it sounds like a tie and your preference is what counts.

Scottish Fold Vs Persian

The Persian tends to have a calm demeanor. The cat has a very cute appearance, a sweet face, and beautiful fur. However, according to many pet owners, the cat has a lot of health issues and is high maintenance. On the brighter side, as a cat lover, their good looks, cuteness, and calmness will more than compensate for that.

You should also care for the coat of your Persian friendly daily so it will remain in good condition. The Persian loves to cuddle and will be playful and curious just like any other cat. However, jumping and being very active is not their thing, they prefer to sit on the couch as if posing for glamour photos.

A toy to play with is enough to keep the little cat busy. The cat mostly does well in a quiet environment with little or no noise, but it can also adapt to any setting.

In comparison to the Scottish fold, which is very lively and active, the Persian is almost the complete opposite. As a pet owner, you would only have to choose what you feel you can best work within your home.

Scottish Fold vs Scottish Straight

The Scottish Straight was originally bred to have white fur, but just like the rest of the cats, it can be found in a variety of colors. Here is a thing or two about the Scottish fold breed: he/she is gentle, intelligent and adjusts very well to a new environment. She is affectionate and tends to get close to people around as well as those who seem to care about his well-being.

However, even as she gets close she will not be unbearable; she will still give you your space. These cats enjoy playing and respond well to being trained.

It is important to note that the Scottish Straight is a rare breed and is not easily found in the market. If you have one, you should be proud to be among the lucky few. This breed can handle a room full of children and other pets you may already have in your home. She will also be able to easily adapt to situations where it is quiet. She easily adapts to any environment and fits in. The cat will require grooming and maintenance depending on the size of the fur. The fur can be either long or short.

Take a look at the video below to see the difference between a normal Scottish fold and a Scottish Fold Straight:

British Shorthair vs Russian Blue

If you are looking for a companion for life, then the British Shorthair is the way to go. He/she can live for 12 to 17years. Of course, I don’t mean that you will live for that long, but according to the lifespan of a cat, that is a long time. This cat tends to be very easy going and would fit right in with the family. He enjoys the affection that is given but even so, he will not follow you around the house; he will give you your space when you need it. The cat has a low purr and does not make much noise.

Russian Blue cat

Russian Blue cat

This cat will enjoy sitting next to you but does not really need to sit on your lap. He also doesn’t enjoy being carried out due to his size. The cat is not so active and prefers to engage in moderate activities.

The Russian blue, on the other hand, is quiet and can be somewhat shy. Even though the cat is reserved, he loves to climb trees, jump around and climb high places and play hard.

This cat can be very picky when it comes to a new face; he will only show himself to guests that he feels comfortable around. When it comes to his favorite people he is very receptive and close to them and is extremely loyal. He is also very sensitive and doesn’t like being ignored.

When he or she does not receive adequate attention, he tends to be fearful and anxious. He enjoys attention but can also entertain himself and not get in your way all the time. He is not receptive to change and would like things to run as he is used to. For instance, he would prefer to have meals at the time he is used to having them.

Conclusion

You can not decide which cat is better than the other. At least I know I cannot. What you can only do is pick a breed that suits your personality and goes well with your environment. It is also important to note that every cat needs the best care and you as the pet owner should provide it. If you are planning to buy a cat or already having one I suggest getting a owners manual specific to the breed: you can find my suggestions here.
